Assetto Corsa / Re: Longevity of Assetto Corsa (Console)
« on: November 29, 2018, 11:15:49 AM »
I've been out of the loop for this game for quite a while now. Have they updated the game since about a year ago? That's was the last updated I played.

They have finished all development on Assetto Corsa PS4 version.
The problem with Assetto Corsa is that they never quite finished the game properly from a PS4 perspective. It is great on PC ( a completely different beast ) but on console
you can't even save a race replay. Doesn't work well for racing communities. I think that Kunos thought they would just add a mickey mouse version of the game to console
and make some money from the kids. They didn't realise that the console racing community is very active, high level and competitive. They have taken lots of flak so I doubt
we will ever see another version on console.

I am currently trying the early release of Assetto Corsa Competizione on PC and the physics are exceptional. Probably time to throw the PS4 in the bin :-)

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our legend Tyron Moore passed away yesterday due to complications following
a Moto X accident 5 months ago.
Tyron was the greatest guy that you could ever meet, an all round awesome husband, father and friend. Our sincere and deepest condolences
to his wife Debbie and sons Tristan, Nathan and Ross.
A legend of our online racing community, and owner of Console Racing Tyron will be irreplaceably missed. We love you buddy, race hard in the sky.
Until we meet again.

Put me down as a reserve. If there are spaces in the lobby available on the day then I will race if I am around.
I travel a lot and cannot plan ahead of time.
Weekends I can almost always race. Weekdays 50/50.

What is VLM?

Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using Tapatalk

Car Magazine used to host a "Virtual Le mans" race on GT5 / GT6 at the exact time of the Le Mans 24hr.
You could enter a team of three and you could win a fully paid trip to one of the F1 GP's ... ( Malaysia / Sepang )
It was hosted at one of the Cape Town Malls. Doesn't happen anymore as the guy that was the driving force
behind it left Car Magazine.

Speculation says La Sarthe could be on the cards tomorrow...:)

PD really took there time releasing this game but now that it is out they are bringing the updates really fast. Love La Sarthe. Can't wait.

I tend to agree with Caddy. Keep it simple. I do this to be part of the community and for the love of racing. If I get stuck in auto drive or anyone of the other plagues affects me, I just have to deal with it. As part of a  community we as individuals  need to take responsibility for our own actions. Lets be competitive as hell but lets race just for the hell of it as well. KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I agree ... even real racing is 70% skill and 30% luck. Charl raced on Saturday and had a crappy day through no fault of his own. Caught up in someone else's accident. F1 yesterday ... Gasly and Hulkenberg taken out by Grosjean's accident. Bad luck you have to smile and wave and move on to the next race.

We have to treat the pains in this game in the same way ... If you get stuck in "Auto Drive" just consider it as though your engine exploded at the start ... tough cookie move on.

2. PD decides to fix the issues

PD will not fix the issue because it is essentially a "South African" issue. Everywhere else except Africa and South America everyone has affordable kick ass internet.
I have a business partner in the USA and he laughed at me when I told him that I have an LTE line 20Ms Ping 26MB Down and 20MB up. ( Vodacom ) and that in our standard
would be considered good.

The difference between the way PD does there network ( all GT Games ) and the other games ( AC as an example ) is that they use a "mesh" network when you create a lobby.
The game is hosted on the host players PS4 machine and not on any other server. The GT Server just acts as a mechanism of introducing players to each other. Once that is done
the entire game is hosted on the hosts PS4. ... AC on the other hand has physical network servers that host the game that is why you don't have the same issues. AC can only do this
because they have a mickey mouse audience ( in numbers ). PD can't do this because of the pure volume of lobbies created. PD host "network servers" for there ( 'Sport Events' ) Daily
races etc ... and they are fricken awesome you never get stuck in auto drive and very little lag.

That is the problem.

The solution is to have a host with a very strong connection but you must run a private lobby  ... and not because you don't want other guys to join but because
if you run a private lobby then the connection is a 'star' from each racer to the 'host' who has a strong connection. If you run a public lobby then the connection to the host is via a 'mesh'
meaning any racers connection to the host connect via another racer.  ... A 'mesh' network for those who don't know in simple terms means that if I am racing in a lobby that is hosted by
Ty in Cape Town and I am in Jo'burg , my connection to him could be passed through other racers in Jo'burg to Bloemfontein etc etc before it gets to the host.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link  ... A meshed network is only as good as the weakest connection.

The problem with running a 'Private Lobby' is that if the host DC's the lobby is gone. On a 'Public Lobby' it will pass to the next guy who joined but the chain will still only be as strong as
its weakest link

From a Tosco perspective I think that the guys are a bit disillusioned  with the network issues in the game ... stuck in auto drive , lobbies falling over etc. Some guys are trying Project Cars on SARCO but this doesn't seem much better. From an organisers perspective there are not many guys left willing to run championships and manage lobbies. As a guy that done this before with DOTY I personally won't do it again. It is not worth the critisicm. And I too on behalf of Tosco have unfortunately dished out my fair share of unfair criticism. It doesn't help. I ask this question ... With GTSport are we any better off than we were with AC ? I'm not sure. Personally I love GTSport and think it is an amazing game the issue is that we have such a mis match of crap network connections in this country that makes lobbies test your patience. Especially as the host who feels responsible while still trying to prepare for his own race. We do need any suggestions and ideas that anyone has to make this work. It is a great community.

Yes, Tosco will definitely be playing our wild card. Charl will race in 'A' and Dirkie will race in 'B'.

I dont mind to help. Only concern is LTE can sometimes bite you in the backside.
The last time I hosted Pool B it all went well :-\.
Or I can drop to pool B for tonight and try host there

No you can't drop ... Tosco need you in A. Looks like our best hope is if some of those Mazda's get
stuck in Auto Drive tonight. ( collective prayer please )  :D
